The Fair is off and running!Huge opening night! The rides are running and the fun is escalating
at the fairgrounds! The talent show had fifteen entries and showed off the singing styles of kids, teens and adults. Over
in the showbarn, the livestock exhibitors got things going and treated the crowd to great showmanship and market classes.
Before the show, one calf made a break for US 60 -- guess he wanted to check out the rest of the fair. Quick reflexes on the
part of the fair board and livestock volunteers rounded up the wayward animal in no time flat. Great job, guys. You've
got to come and eat with the WC and EC FFA and the Hitchins Preservation Society. Those groups have AMAZING cooks and really
good causes to support, too. Ribeyes, corn on the cob, barbecues, soup beans, corn bread, kraut and weiners -- the local concession
tent is THE PLACE for dinner this week.
Tonight looks to be a really pleasant evening as it rained just enough
to settle the dust and cool things off. Don't forget to bring a lawn chair if you want to get really comfortable at the
sound stage for the great groups that will be performing at our Gospel Night. The Rogers Heritage Quartet, New Hope
and Lisa Jordan will be sharing their gifts of song and inspiration beginning at 7:30, so don't be late! Lambs,
chickens and rabbits are set to show tonight and the first ever All Creatures Veterinary Care "Ask the Vet/Tech night"
will be fielding your questions from 6 pm till 9 pm. Stop by the exhibitors tent and see all the great things and programs
that our county has to offer.
