The Sun Always Shines on the Carter County Fair!Fair Week keeps getting bigger and better! Wow! A few raindrops
early in the week but since about Tuesday night, things have been dry and exciting at the grounds. The crowds are getting
larger -- that's good! The parking lots are filling up -- that's terrific! The sun keeps shining -- that is too wonderful
for words! Be sure you see the woodcarvings that we will auction off on Saturday
Night at 8 pm. The UK Bench is too awesome! One of our big hits this season has been champion woodcarver
Jason Emmons of the Bear Hollow Woodcarvers. Jason has created two great stand-alone items, the bear and the soaring eagle
plus two amazing benches. The first bench, is a double bench. It forms an "L" with the corner being carved into
a complete scene of a log cabin on a mountain with giant fir trees! It is amazing! The second bench he created as a nod to
our BIG BLUE PRIDE... it's a UK Wildcat Bench! The back of the bench has been emblazoned with a giant growling wildcat face
and then "Kentucky Wildcats" is carved beside it . All of these works of art started out the week as pine logs.
Jason turned them into useful, gorgeous carvings over the course of two days -- and he did it all with our fairgoers watching!
He's a true craftsman and artist. Stop by and see the carvings and think about placing a bid. You might get to take
them home with you at the end of the fair. You can bid "silently" tonight and tomorrow up until 8 pm when the auction
begins. Or you can join us at 8 pm on Saturday and bid on the item you want. Here are the carvings, "Soaring Eagle"
and "Little Bear." The benches have to be seen to be believed -- they are that good!

A little soggy, but still good...Raising the Roof at the Fairgrounds!
If
you are like the rest of us, you just can't wait for Fair Week to get here! It's the last big-darn-deal community event of
the summer and this year it should be even more exciting and entertaining. We Yes, it's been a wet year for Carter County.
With rainfall some 7 inches above normal -- yards, gardens and the fairgrounds are soggy. In these past few days of dry weather,
crews are working to fortify the entry road and put limestone on the heavy-travelled parts of our midway. That being
said, here's a few Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Q - EXPLAIN THE "PAY ONE PRICE"
AND DO IT ALL NIGHTS. A -"Pay One Price" or POP allows you to buy one ticket at the fairgrounds
entry that enables you to enjoy carnival rides, music, motor events, bull riding, magic, wood carvers, family night stuff
-- all of it without any other charges. Basicallly, it covers everything but your food and any amusement games. A POP ticket
is for one person only. Q - I WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE KART RACES/BULL RIDING/MOTORCROSS/ETCETERA.
HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION? A -First, read through the website for rules and regulations. Contact
numbers are available on most of those pages, too. If you haven't found them there, here they are: Kart Racing -- 606-255-0685
Fair Pageant -- 606-922-4391 Bull Riding -- 606-928-1525 Motocross -- 859-987-4539 or 859-227-1002 Demolition
Derby -- 859-227-1002 Livestock -- 606-474-6284
Q - WILL THERE BE MUD AT THE
FAIRGROUNDS?
A - Yes, it is not a year to wear your best shoes to the fair. It'll still be fun,
but mud is a distinct possibility. Q - WILL THE FAIR BE CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN? A
- No. Many of our motor events can be run in rain. Some events might be delayed a bit to wait for clearing skies or for lightning
to subside. The safety of our participants is our number one concern. A scheduled event on a given night might be cancelled,
but the "Fair" itself will not. Q - WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
A
- No refunds.
